Darrin is a scientist, entrepreneur, angel investor and enterprise champion who has started, grown or invested in over 40 start-up life science, technology and social enterprises.
For 11 years he was CEO of Horizon Discovery Group plc a company he led from seed funding to a $113 million IPO, through four international acquisition becoming the market leader in gene editing and gene modulation.
He has won a number of awards throughout his career, including Business Leader of the Year at the European Life Science Awards (2012), Executive of the Year at the global Scrip Awards (2014), Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK Quoted Company Awards (2014), a lifetime Queens Award for his work in supporting young entrepreneurs and the UK life science industry (2016), Public Life Science Company CEO of the Year at the Biotech and Money Awards (2017) and Barclays Iconic UK Male Entrepreneur (2017).
Darrin is an Enterprise Fellow in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and an Honorary Fellow in Entrepreneurship of the Cambridge Judge Business School both at the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Visiting Fellow in Environmental and Life Science at the University of Salford. He holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Cambridge University and a DSc (Honoris Causa) from the University of Salford.
In 2018 he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to business, enterprise and healthcare.
